Jess Brown - Designer + Doll-maker
Who was your childhood hero?
My grandmother, Poppy. Always..she’s going to be 102 this year and she’s still #1 for me!
When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?
Well, first, I wanted to be a bunny. Then a few years later I thought being a teacher would be pretty cool.
All time favorite song?
Ooof! That’s tough... torn between Elliot smith- waltz #2, Rolling Stones- play with fire, toots and the maytals- 54-46 was my number, new order - 60 miles an hour
When are you most comfortable in your own skin?
Definitely when I’m home and feeling super creative...music on... house full.
Do you feel you have met your own expectations?
Yes, but that’s mostly due to the fact that I try pretty hard not set any. I have gotten pretty good at allowing things to unfold and get excited about the surprises .
How do you measure success?
100% in how happy I am. At the most financially successful point of my business, I found I was the least happy. Slower pace, finding time that is unclaimed in everyday, being able to stay creative... these things for me are a solid measure of success.
What's a word or phrase people use that you just can't stand?
24/7 and “back in the day” are a close tie
How do you spend Sunday?
Beach. Garden. Good food.
Super power or spirit animal, which and why?
My super power is definitely being able to find the upside of any situation. I have a way of sort of drinking in a bit of bad news and immediately finding what’s ok about it all.
If you had to wear one outfit from head to toe every day for a year, what would it be?
My dads old a.p.c. jeans, work-shirt, sandals
Is there something you secretly take pleasure in but are kind of embarrassed to admit?
Lately.... we’ve been baking angels food cake from a box. Can’t believe I just wrote that!
It’s talent night, what will you be bringing?
My chocolate chip cookies.
